Covid-19 Scotland Update | 10th July 2020
We would like to update you about the year ahead at Scotway House, Glasgow and the current Covid-19 situation in Scotland. Please note that the situation changes daily, so please follow the links provided to check for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
Firstly, the Scotway House team would like to send our deepest condolences to all of those who have been affected by the Covid-19. Whether it be your own health and wellbeing, financially, socially, your place at university and particularly to those who have lost loved ones which saddens us deeply. We send our warmest well wishes to you all.
On a slightly more positive note, here in Scotland, we have so far shown significant progress in combatting the virus. The World Health Organisation (WHO) says that one measure which can indicate whether an epidemic is under control is whether, with a comprehensive testing system, less than 5% of samples return a positive for Covid-19 over two weeks. “In Scotland, this has been below 1% since the 3rd of June 2020” (BBC News Scotland, 8th July 2020).

Universities & Colleges
Universities and Colleges in Scotland will open again for teaching, including Glasgow Universities which will return from September. Institutions are planning for a phased return with a blended model of remote and limited on-campus learning. New guidance has been published to help Scotland’s colleges and universities prepare for a safe and phased return to campus - you can read more on this on the government website here. The guidance includes student accommodation move-ins, which are now permitted as of 29th June 2020.
We will continue to assess the situation and work with Health Protection Scotland and the Scottish Government’s advice to combat the virus. You will see we have put in some extra measures to help protect the health and well-being of everyone at Scotway House. This is our commitment to our residents to ensure a safe living and working environment for all.
Health & Safety
Communal areas are cleaned daily by our in-house service team. We have also had a full disinfection of all communal areas by certified contractors and will continue to do this. You will also see hand sanitising stations and signage in line with Health Protection Scotland advice displayed around the building. Additionally, we have a booking system in place for using communal areas to ensure social distancing is maintained and to keep the building as safe as possible.
Social, But Distanced
We can still be social...and distanced! The social aspect is one of the best things about the student experience and we aren’t going to let COVID-19 get in the way of that! More information on this and the 2020-21 academic year is to follow.
